Obituary

Socorro F. Mejia, 98 of Douglas, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Friday May 17, 2019.

She leaves her son Manuel Mejía Sr. and wife Lupita Ibarra Mejía of Phoenix; daughter Lupita Mejía of Douglas; and daughter Minerva Mejía Kong of Douglas.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years Jose C Mejia and her son, Joe Mejia Jr. in 2014, who died at the age of 56 and is survived by his wife Julie Elvick-Mejia.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Manuel Mejía Jr. and wife Elisa Mejía of Phoenix (great grandchildren-Manny III and Anthony Mejía); Arnold Mejía and wife Bonnie Mejía of Phoenix (great grandchildren-Daniel and Max Mejía, great-great-granddaughter Raina Mejia); Sergio Mejía and wife Yesenia Mejía of Phoenix (great grandchildren Sergio Jr, Izel, and Naiya Mejía); Adriana Kong Romero and husband Frank Romero of Tucson, Jessica F. Bernal-Mejia and husband Rene Bernal-Mejia of Tucson, (great granddaughter Alizea Bernal-Mejia); Joey Mejía of Tucson, Maria Teresa Mejía of Phoenix, and Benjamin Mejía of Tucson along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born July 28, 1920 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, the daughter of the late Lorenzo y Maria de la Luz (Parra) Felίx. She was the oldest of three daughters and was preceded in death by her sisters Artemisa Fimbres & Eva Felίx.

She was loved by many.  Her door was always open to everyone no matter if you were family or friend.  She was an animal lover and had fond memories of the time spent on the ranch in Pitaicachi, Mexico riding horses and tending to the animals.  She respected and encouraged education and always set the expectation that her children would attain a college degree.   She was a strong female role model for her daughters an granddaughters and empowered them to achieve anything they set their mind to.

Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Brown Page Mortuary located at 910 F Ave, Douglas, AZ.   A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church located at 928 C Avenue, Douglas, AZ.   A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated following the Rosary at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will take place on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Hope Cemetery located at 3555 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85705.
