On Monday June, 5 2017, beloved father, husband, tata, brother, friend, and mentor, Rudy J. Quinonez, 58, passed away in his home in Douglas, Arizona. Rudy was born on July 15, 1959 in Douglas to Julia Arvayo Quinonez, and Rudy V. Quinonez. He was the first of six children. Rudy lived his life passionately and his passion shone through in everything he did. Two of his first passions in life were baseball and music. He began playing sports at a very early age, and participated in many organized sports, but no other sport was more thrilling to him than baseball. Although he loved playing competitively and on organized teams, Rudy got the most joy out of just playing for the fun of it with neighborhood friends and family, then later on, with his children. By the time he was fifteen years old, he carried on his passion for baseball by becoming a team coach. He began coaching his little brothers' teams, and when he had children of his own, he coached their teams, too. When Rudy wasn't playing or watching baseball, he could be found listening/singing along with his extensive and eclectic record collection, or day-dreaming about which concert he would attend next. Some of his fondest memories of his early years included attending concerts and music festivals with his friends. Baseball and music can be considered some of Rudy's greatest passions, but there was nothing he was more passionate and dedicated to than his loving wife Yvonne (Nalley) Quinonez, the five children that they shared, and later on, his sixteen grandchildren. Rudy and Yvonne moved their family to Silver City, New Mexico in 1991 where they graduated from WNMU together. Rudy finished at WNMU with a double Bachelor's Degree in education and a Master's in psychology. He began his career as a counselor at Border Area Mental Health services in 1994, and later landed a job as school counselor at Sixth-Street Elementary, where he worked alongside his wife for twelve years before relocating back to Arizona. Upon relocating back to Arizona, Rudy continued his work as a school counselor, but this time in the Douglas school district. Rudy touched the lives of everybody he met in his counseling profession and in his daily life. His strong willed character, kind nature, and optimistic yet practical words inspired his students and family to be great and live up to their full potential. Many people turned to him in their times of need, as they knew he would always offer a helping hand, his ears to listen, and comforting words, and/or solutions. As a counselor, dad, and friend, he had an unmatched ability to pull anybody from any kind of darkness into the light. Throughout his life, Rudy loved his friends and family (brothers, sister, many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, mom, dad, kids, grandkids, etc.) and often spoke of them fondly. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing this remarkable man. Rudy was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Arvayo Quinonez, and his father, Rudy "Popo" Quinonez. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne (Nalley) Quinonez, five children: Rudy F. (Cassandra) Quinonez, Joseph Quinonez, Donald Nalley, Vincent (Alicia) Quinonez, Marisa Quinonez; his siblings: Patricia (Ruben) Rodriguez, Johnny Quinonez, Fernando (Gemma) Quinonez, Albert (Rosanna) Quinonez, and Bernie (Christie) Quinonez; his sixteen grandchildren, and many aunts/uncles/cousins. A Holy Rosary was held on Monday at 7pm at St Luke's Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection on Tuesday, June 13 at 10:30am, also at St. Luke's. Following the Mass, our beloved Rudy's body was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery near his dear parents. Pallbearers were Rudy F. Quinonez, Joseph Quinonez, Donald Nalley, Vincent (Chente) Quinonez, Albert Quinonez, Bernie Quinonez, and Nathen Collier. Honorary pallbearers were Fernando Quinonez, Johnny Quinonez, Sebastian Quinonez, Devin Nalley, Hanakoa (Koa) Quinonez-Collier. The family wishes to thank each and every family member, dear friends, and the community of Douglas for reaching out and offering kind words and support for our family during this time.
