Ruben Vasquez Barraza, born on Friday, January 8, 1943, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022 in Goodyear, Arizona. He was born to Tomas and Francesca Barraza in Paul Spur, just east of Douglas. While he enjoyed many activities throughout the years such as working on vintage cars and helping his parents on their ranch, his passion was baseball. He expressed that passion as coach and mentor to his own children and several other children in any community he lived in for decades.

He is survived by his wife Jennie Esqueda Barraza of 60 years, his children John and Monica Schroeder; Ruben and Katya Barraza; Robert and Roberta Barraza; and Jennifer Barraza of Mesa, Arizona; his surviving siblings Thomas Barraza, Jr., Frank Barraza and Margaret Encinas; and grandchildren Adriana Barraza Ruben, III Barraza, Inna Emerich, Ava Barraza, Robert Barraza, Jr., and Nicole Barraza. Ruben will be received by his parents and sisters, Virginia Berumen, Alice Higuera and Dora Arvayo in heaven.

While he may be missed, he left a definite mark in the hearts of anyone who came to know him. A Rosary for Ruben will be recited at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at St. Luke's Catholic Church.  A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated following the Rosary at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Ruben's Life to be held at the American Legion.
