Richard "Cayo" Holguin passed away peacefully in Tucson, Arizona on February 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and life-long friends.

Richard was one of 10 children born to Gilberto and Juanita Holguin and loved growing up and living in his hometown of Douglas, Arizona. He will be deeply missed and remembered by his devoted wife, Sandra Holguin, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was blessed with four sons, Eric Holguin, Ricky Holguin, predeceased son Hector Alonso Blaine, Adrian Blaine and his baby girl, Valerie Holguin-Kennerly. Grandchildren Michael Holguin, Tyler Holguin, Nohelia Holguin, Almita Holguin, Marisol Holguin, Devin Blaine, Sophia Blaine, Brianna Blaine, Isabel Kennerly and Claudia Kennerly. Great grandchildren OzXander, Grayson, Adalynn, Atlas and Elian.

He is survived by his siblings: Ramon Holguin (Cecilia), Gilberto "Chalio" Holguin, Sr. (predeceased wife Diane), Fernando Holguin, Sr. (Romelia) and Yolanda Holguin Verdugo.

"Cayo" was preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto and Juanita Holguin; son, Hector Alonso Blaine; siblings Olga Meza, Elvira Loreto, Elva Rael, Eva Valenzuela, and Reynaldo Holguin.

Richard dedicated 20 years of service to the Arizona Department of Corrections, serving as both mentor and friend to many officers, until retirement. Additionally, he continued to serve the state of Arizona working for Arizona Department of Transportation until retirement in December of 2016.

Richard was an avid hunter and horseman. He spent his time with his son's and grandson Devin, hunting along the Geronimo trail, accompanied by his brothers and fellow friends. Among his most cherished memories was fishing with his best friend and compadre, Memo Duron, in Angostura, Mexico.

His children are left with many memories of him and will be left reminiscing of the times he would take them camping in Rucker Canyon in the summer time, and inviting over his adult kids for "family reunion weekends" only to surprise them with the request of hard physical labor around his property with the promise of carne asada after a long hard day's work.

Richard lived for quiet moments sitting on his porch with his wife, Sandra, grilling every Sunday afternoon. They spent Sunday morning's going to St. Luke's Catholic Church for morning mass and would often go to Tombstone for a burger at Big Nose Kate's. They would enjoy a cruise going down 10th street and stopping for ice cream along the way.

His legacy of service to the state of Arizona, his family and friends will be remembered and continue to serve as inspiration to all who knew him.
