Raymundo V. Luzania, 89, passed away January 24, 2016, at his home in Douglas, Arizona, surrounded by family. He leaves behind his three children, Ana Luzania; Ray Luzania and his spouse, Alma Luzania; and Gilbert Luzania and his spouse, Irma Luzania. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alex, Bobby, Ray, and Amber Ybarra, Lisa Molina, Eric Luzania, Juoy Luzania-Murdock, Isamar Reynolds, Gilbert, Rudy, and Christopher Luzania, in addition to his 10 ice-cream-loving-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved brothers, Ernesto V. Luzania and his wife, Francisca Luzania; and Ruben V. Luzania and his wife, Francisca Luzania. He was predeceased by his parents, Eduardo and Refugio Luzania of Agua Prieta, Sonora and his wife of 48 years Maria Jesus Enriquez de Luzania. In addition to his siblings, Rosalia, Ignacio, Francisco, Eduardo, Anita, Alberto, Manuel, Raul, Refugio, Delfina, Abelardo, and Eufemia. Raymundo was born November 8, 1926, in Cochise County, Arizona and registered in Agua Prieta, Sonora. He was born into a large family and throughout his life he symbolized the importance of family and togetherness. He worked as a police officer in Agua Prieta and later as a ranch hand for 12 years for Mr. Bill Kimble. He enjoyed telling stories about his time as a cowboy, herding cattle from Sonora and throughout the southwest. Raymundo and his family then moved to Douglas, AZ in 1967. He would live in the same house on 1st street for the rest of his life. For 26 years he took his lunch and his large thermos of coffee to the Paul Lime Plant just outside of Douglas. His days were long but he looked forward to seeing his loved ones at the end of his workday. His grandchildren would eagerly await his arrival so they could help pull off his work boots. He was very involved in the community. He served as President of the United Steelworkers Union while working at the Paul Lime Plant, was a member and at times board member of the Sociedad Mutualista de Los Obreros Mexicanos, and attained the honor of a 4th degree Knight with the Caballeros de Colon (Knights of Columbus). Raymundo and Maria's home was always open to friends and family. They were well known in the community for their kindness, generosity, and welcoming spirits. Raymundo loved to watch the Los Angeles Dodgers and professional boxing. He enjoyed crossing the line to Agua Prieta, Sonora to visit with friends and family. He was quick witted and enjoyed reminiscing about his trips to the interior of Mexico. He lived a life filled with many friends and family members who thoroughly enjoyed his company. Anyone who met him fell in love with his humility and his ability to make one feel like you had known him for years. The family wishes to thank caregivers Liz Becerra, Josefina Almanza, Frances Altamirano, and the late Maria Elena Pinedo for treating him like a family member. They also wish to thank the Douglas Fire Department for their constant support and the Douglas Dialysis Center for treating him with so much respect, love, and for accepting the candies he would pass out on a daily basis. A Rosary for Raymundo will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church. A Mass of the Ressurection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 28th also at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will take place in Agua Prieta, Sonora. Pallbearers are Alex Ybarra, Bobby Ybarra, Ray Ybarra Maldonado, Eric Luzania, Rene Linares, and Frank Luzania. Honorary pallbearers are Raul Luzania, Ray Luzania, Gilbert Luzania, Dr. Saul Luna, Luis Montes De Oca, Pepe Pedrego, Arnold Duron, Ruben Duron (deceased), Ernesto V. Luzania, and Ruben V. Luzania.
