Obituary

Raquel Moreno Keeme passed away on September 29, 2023, at the age of 91.  Raquel was born on June 10th, 1932, in Douglas, AZ to Apolonio Herrera and Maria Contreras.  She was one of six siblings.

Raquel briefly worked at the Canary in Elfrida, AZ, Cochise County Hospital and Paul H. Huber middle school formerly 12th Street Junior High.  She and her youngest four children moved to Southern California in 1983, where she worked at St. Linus Elementary school for a couple of years as a teacher's aide and was an active member of St. Linus Catholic Church.  Mom enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, watching Jeopardy and listening to the radio and singing in the kitchen when she thought no one was listening.  Mom will be remembered for her famous apple walnut stuffing, pork chop suey, beef and pork tamales, bunuelos, capirotada and many other traditional Mexican recipes.

Raquel is survived by her seven children: Maria Elena Moreno-Rubalcaba, Rodolfo Moreno (Teresa Bracamonte), Bernard Moreno, Aurora Miller (Mark), Karla Serrato (Ramon), William Keeme (Cecilia Ochoa), Edward Keeme (Marta Castello), and her youngest son John Charles Keeme who passed in Dec of 1985.  She was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her parents, first husband Rodolfo Moreno, second husband Carlos Keeme and her five siblings.  Raquel leaves a legacy of four generations.

She was the "Rock" of the family and was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children and grandchildren.  She will be lovingly missed and has joined her loved ones in the presence and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Funeral services and a mass will be held in Norwalk, CA.  A "Celebration of Life" reception will be held in Whittier, CA. Raquel's final resting place will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Douglas, Arizona at a later date.  For more information please send your request to rkserrato13@yahoo.com
