Ramon "Ray" Martinez passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Tucson, Arizona on January 16, 2025 surrounded by his family.  He was born in Douglas, Arizona on February 22, 1952 to Ramon Martinez of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico and Cecilia Rodriguez Martinez of New Mexico.  He attended Douglas Public Schools and lived most of his life in Douglas.

He married his wife Rosalinda Rodriguez Martinez on November 11, 1972 in Douglas, Arizona.

Ray was well known in Arizona and California for his Masonry and building skills.  He was a co-owner of Martinez Masonry with his brother Chico for many years and formed Masonry One years later.  Ray left footprints of well known structures such as many Douglas public schools, including additions to Joe Carlson, Douglas High School, Clawson Elementary School, the CCC Building, the Douglas airport hangar and numerous housing subdivisions, including the home where his family was raised on 8th Street.

Some of his other projects included buildings at Fort Huachuca, numerous state and federal prison establishments, the Loop 202 wall in the Phoenix area, various skyscrapers in the Los Angeles area, Cienega High School, Flowing Wells schools as well as Sahuarita schools, the El Pueblo Activity Center in Tucson, and various Wal Marts and QT convenience stores in the area.  Over the years Ray built many structures, too many to name all, in Arizona, California, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico.  He was most proud of the fire station in downtown Tucson, visible from I-10 and the Bashas in Dove Mountain.  He was an extremely hard worker and was a teacher of his trade to many, including friends and family.  Hard work was a value he instilled in his children, family and all who crossed his path.

Ray was loved by all his family and was always the life of the party.  He loved classic rock, played the guitar and attended many rock concerts along the years with his family.  His favorite bands were Deep Purple, The Beatles, Santana, Mana, Adele and Tina Turner.  He was an avid sports watcher and the biggest fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and began taking his children to games at a young age in the LA area.  Later, they would continue the tradition of watching the Dodgers games nearby in Phoenix, with a most recent visit back to the Dodger stadium.  You could always see him wearing an LA Dodgers hat.  After retirement, he enjoyed his days sitting outside his front porch conversing with his neighbors and local friends. His favorite food was tacos, especially Rosa's tacos.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Cecilia Martinez, his brother Angel "Windy" Martinez, godson Jorge Eduardo "Eddie" Ortega, his nephew Alexis A. Rodriguez and his in-laws David and Rosa Rodriguez.  He is survived by his wife, Rosalinda and his children – Claudia Martinez (Kevin) of Tucson, Ramon Martinez, Jr. of Tempe, Corina Martinez of Tucson, and his grandchildren Damion  Mckenzie (Alicia), Kianna Y. Mckenzie, Kevin Jr. "KJ" Mckenzie, Aaron J. Cueto, and Mark A Lopez, Jr.; his sisters Rachel Ortega, Carmen Lopez, and Grace Reckers (Steven); his brother Francisco "Chico" Martinez (Ana); his sisters in law Guadalupe Rodriguez and Susie Rodriguez, brothers in law Francisco Rodriguez, David Rodriguez, Sergio Rodriguez, Antonio Rodriguez (Elena), and Javier Rodriguez (Kelly),  as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous family members from the California area.

He will be greatly missed!  Thank you for everything Dad!
