Petra Valencia Hernandez, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, in her home in Douglas, Arizona, surrounded by the love of her family. A lifelong resident of Douglas, Petra devoted many years of her life to her craft as a seamstress, working in local factories such as Billy the Kid and Sierra Madre. Her skilled hands and unwavering dedication were hallmarks of her work, and her kindness and steady presence touched all who knew her.

Born on January 5, 1939, in Tempe, Arizona, Petra was the daughter of Miguel and Guadalupe Valencia, who preceded her in death. On December 5, 1962, she married the love of her life, Emeterio Lopez Hernandez, with whom she built a beautiful family and shared 42 years of marriage. Petra cherished her family above all else, and her home was a place of warmth, tradition, and deep connection.

Petra is preceded in death by her husband, Emeterio; her children, Rosalinda V. Hernandez, Jacinto Hernandez, and Dolores Valencia; her grandson, Abel Jacinto Hernandez; and her brothers, Juan, Manuel, Jesus, and Lupe Valencia.

She is survived by her sister, Consuelo (Juan Manuel) Anguiano; her children, Margarita L. Valencia, Jesus (Laura) Hernandez, Gloria Hernandez, and Emeterio (Alexa) Hernandez; and numerous grandchildren who brought her great joy: Sylvia (Anthony) Roberts, Frank Cornejo, Francine Cornejo, Brigget (Enrique) Lopez, Jesse (Eva) Villanueva, Iliana Hernandez, Angel (Becky) Morales, Krystal Morales, Sophia Morales, Tony Grijalva, Emeterio (EJ) Hernandez, and Fabian Hernandez. Petra also leaves behind twenty-two beloved great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Petra will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love of reading, her novelas, and the music that filled her home. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and memories that will forever be cherished by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
