Ofelia Quijada Johnson went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2015 with her small family by her side. Ofelia is preceded in death by her husband Bill, brother Rodolfo, and sister Susana. Ofelia was born in Tin Town Bisbee, Arizona on January 9, 1922 where her father worked in the copper mines. When the depression led to work loss the family moved to a farm in Cumpas, Sonora. This is where Ofelia grew up and made friends she frequented to the day of her passing. By the age of sixteen Ofelia had lost both parents to illnesses. Fortunately she was able to obtain work as a teacher to support herself and her little brother. After the two grew up Ofelia moved to San Pedro, California where she worked for several years before moving to Agua Prieta. This is where Ofelia met the love of her life Bill at the Copa. They were married and together they operated the Valley News and Gift Shop on G Avenue, Douglas until his death 1968. Ofelia stayed home to raise her son and then worked at J.J. Newberry in Douglas for many years up to retirement. Ofelia liked to cook and garden and was active in all the Catholic churches in the Douglas area. Ofelia visited daily with friends and relatives and enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and baseball, especially the Cubbies. Ofelia is survived by her son Bill, granddaughter Rosie, goddaughters Gloria and Clarisa; several nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. Her absence is felt by all that knew her. We will always treasure our memories of Ofelia, her wonderful sense of humor and the times we shared together. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at St. Luke's Catholic Church with a Holy Rosary being recited at 10:00 a.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated following the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. with Father Gilbert Malu officiating. Burial will follow at Julia Page Memorial Park.
