Norma M.
Wilkinson
Jul 24, 1948 — Apr 28, 2021
Norma Monje Wilkinson died at 5:55 am on April 28,2021 at a hospice facility in Tucson, AZ. Norma was born on July 24, 1948 to parents Enrique and Guadalupe Wilkinson in Douglas, AZ. She was a graduate of Douglas High School and later graduated from Cochise College with her Associates Degree and earned an Airframe and Power Plant Certificate from Cochise College.
Norma had a variety of jobs throughout her life, reflecting her curiosity and delight in learning and trying new things. She worked as a manual laborer in the copper mines, near Tucson, AZ for several years, before moving to Phoenix, where she put her Airframe and Power Plant certificate to use, working on rebuilding aircraft jet engines. She returned to Douglas to care for family and worked briefly as a correctional guard. However, all the physical labor, both in the mines and on jet aircraft, left a mark on her body, and she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that sidelined her, and forced her into medical retirement.
In retirement, her faith and love of Christ lead her to serve her Catholic community as a Eucharistic minister. She was also a faithful and loyal sister, assisting her sister in her last year with her health.
In life, she was quite the character. She was known to tell it like it was, and people either enjoyed it or considered it rude. Either way, Norma refused to let anyone tell her how should behave or think or live. Because of this, she had many adventures in life, and found lessons to reflect upon with others.
Norma loved the simple things in life: bologna sandwiches; cowboy westerns; sitting on porches; drinking coffee and listening to the songs of birds; and family. A simple life, but a life earned with her own hands and her own mind.
Although Norma never married or had children, she loved all children, especially her nieces and nephews. She cherished her family and held them in her heart until the very end.
Norma will be greatly missed by those who loved her, but we're confident she'll be embraced by family and friends, waiting for her in the home of our Lord and God, Jesus Christ.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Enrique and Guadalupe Wilkinson, her sister Linda Bojorquez, and many other family members. She leaves behind, her stepmother Eduviges (Vicki) Wilkinson, brother's Enrique (Guadalupe) Wilkinson, Tomas Wilkinson, and Frank (Cheryl) Wilkinson, along with nieces, nephews, and family.
Services for Norma are scheduled for Monday, May 17, with a Rosary at 10:15 am, followed by her Holy Mass at 11 am at St. Bernards Church, in Pirtleville, AZ. Interment of her ashes will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
