On Sunday, December 6, 2015, heaven welcomed another angel. Norma was born August 12, 1937 in Douglas, Arizona where she resided most of her life. She was the daughter of Pete and Virginia Arzate and the little sister to Gloria Arzate (deceased), David (Amelia) Arzate and Richard "Pilingy" Arzate (deceased). She attended Douglas schools and graduated from Douglas High School in 1956 and was married to Ignacio "Nacho" Romo for 41 years until his death on August 24, 1997. Norma is survived by her daughters Gloria Romo Zuniga of Douglas, Ana (Oscar) Altamirano of Douglas and Neisha (Salvador) Lopez of Tempe. She was Nana/Grandmother to Hayde (Hector) Salazar of Tempe, Nubia Romo of Douglas, Nicheli (Hector) Estrada of Sierra Vista, Kassandra "Kai" Lopez of Brooklyn, NY and Ignacio "Nachito" Lopez of Tempe. Most importantly, she was Granny to her adoring Great Grandkids Alessandra Estrada, Devon Salazar, Audriana Estrada and Jonathan "JJ" Salazar. She also leaves behind her Aunt Alice Juarez and her Uncle Armando Arevalo, several cousins and many nieces and nephews. Norma began to work in textile divisions of Woods Company in 1962, as a parts seamstress. The company went through many name changes throughout her 26 year tenure where she was a Sewing Floor Supervisor for Billy The Kid at its closure in 1988. That same year Norma began to work at Arizona Correctional Industries for the Arizona Department of Corrections where she supervised and instructed inmates how to sew. She remained there until her retirement in 1998. Norma never really "retired" as she continued to sew costumes for Gloria's Dance Studio and Tempe Dance Academy. She loved to sew for her family, especially for her granddaughter Kai and great granddaughters Aless and Audri. Though she didn't sew for Nachito, her grandson or Devon and JJ her great grandsons she always cooked their favorites chilaquiles, carnita and sopita. She spent the last four years of her life residing in Tempe because of her failing health. She was loved by all of her Doctors and their staff. Norma adopted all of Neisha's friends as her own and was Granny to all of Hayde's friends and family. She was very proud of Ana for opening her boutique and was very happy with all her family accomplishments. She lived for her family. Norma was loved and will be missed by her family and countless friends but she is now pain free and in the company of her beloved mother and brother. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church, 928 C Avenue, Douglas, AZ. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated following the Rosary at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Cavalry Cemetery.
