Nancy Hayhurst Pollack passed away Feb. 14, 2016 after being in a terrible accident. Nancy was born to Evelyn and Robert Hayhurst on Sept. 25, 1935 in Cudahy, California. She and her two sisters grew up in Tombstone and Douglas. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1953 and moved to Phoenix to work. In 1961 she moved to Las Vegas, Nev. where she raised her two children, Crystal and Dee. Nancy worked for the Clark County Sheriff's Department, the Nevada State Industrial Commission and the Clark County Personnel Office where she became head of the department. Nancy was involved in creating the entrance exams for the fire and sheriff's departments. After retiring in 1999, Nancy moved back to Douglas where she and Danny Pollack married. They had met at a DouglasHigh School reunion. Nancy loved to play cards and other games and she belonged to a Bunko group. The meeting of that group was always the highlight of the month for her. She also belonged to the PEO and every year she helped out at the Mothers Day Cake Auction. Through her efforts two and one-quarter mile of Brooks Road was chip sealed. She got great enjoyment from observing the birds from her kitchen window and she loved her dog. She also became quite a rock hound. She was known for her feisty personality, love of life and laughter, sense of humor and willingness to try new things. We will miss everything about Nancy including her stubbornness, quick wit, love for knick knacks and having her as a friend and confident. She was a most generous person. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Crystal Lynn, her first granddaughter Amber Michelle, sister Patsy (Emmett) Davis and her first husband. She is survived by her husband Danny Pollack, sister Barbara (Jim) Duke, son Dee Smith, grandchildren DJ (Christina), Caleb, and Amber (Joe), great grandchildren Dean, Peyton and Elliott. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the First Presbyterian Church in Douglas.
