Max Guerrero passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, Saturday morning, February 4, 2017. Max had been battling brain cancer for almost a year. Max was born and raised in Douglas, Arizona on May 27, 1962. Max had previously endured brain surgery when he was only 12 years old. He recuperated and inspite of all the odds, he received his GED, took some college courses, and continued working until his illness prevented him from doing so about two years ago. He rarely complained of pain or discomfort and accepted God's will. He had been married for 21 years to Luz, the love of his life and spending time with Luz and his three children Ricky, Angel, and Breanna was what meant the most to him.
Max was a special, sweet man with a generous, loving heart. He loved teasing and playing pranks on his family and friends, but he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He touched many lives and had an endless amount of friends and was always making new friends everywhere he went. He loved children of all ages and he and his wife lovingly fostered over 165 children. Max was a person who had great faith in God. He would read his Bible and say his prayers religiously every morning before he went to work. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a catechism teacher for many years until his health prevented him from doing so.
Max is survived by his wife Luz, his children Richard, Angel, and Breanna Guerrero. He is also survived by his father Joe Guerrero of Douglas, his brothers Henry Guerrero (Cynthia) of Bisbee and Jerry (Olivia) Guerrero of Douglas, his special nephew Jaime Guerrero of Tucson, many nieces and nephews. His mother-in-law Ofelia Duarte, brothers and sisters-in-law Umberto, Fabian, Veronica, and Lupe Duarte of Hermosillo. Numerous cousins, uncles, aunts, and friends. Max was preceded in death by his mother Socorro "Chiquita" Guerrero and his grandmother Aurora Gonzalez.
We will all miss Max so very much and we know Max will be praying and smiling at us from Heaven. Thank you Max for being a part of our lives. You will always remain in our hearts and in our memories.
There will be a viewing for Max at Brown Page Mortuary, Tuesday, February 7, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 10, at 10:30 a.m. also at the Immaculate Conception Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery followed by a potluck gathering at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Luz, Ricky, Angel, Breanna, and the entire family would like to thank the Knights of Columbus and Scotty Babicky of the American Legion and others too numerous to mention, who extended their love, support, companionship, prayers, and donations during Max's illness. The family is eternally grateful.
