Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother Matilde (Tillie) Ortega. She is preceded in death by her dear husband, Alfredo Ortega and great grandson Michael, Anthony Ortega III, She is survived by her sisters Georgina (Daniel Deceased) Ortega and Lolita Arvizu, her children Bernice Ortega, Freddie Ortega,

Michael (Cyndy) Ortega and Oscar (Kristin) Ortega. Her grandchildren Devan Garcia, (Ashley),

April (Billy) Bernard, Michael Beltran, Freddie (Petry) Ortega, Stephen Ortega, Michael (Robin) Ortega, Joshua (Julie) Ortega, Sean Ortega And Leah (Mitchell) Bruce, Alejandra Lomeli, Mason Lulay, Carter Lulay and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Tillie Ortega was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She was a Lioness for many years and loved working with the women in the club.

She was a devout Catholic and spent many hours at Immaculate Conception Church worshiping, cleaning, and participating in church activities. The Fiesta Del Sol was a yearly event in which she took pride in making burritos, laughing and having fun with the other women who volunteered. She worked side by side with her loving husband in the family shoe business for many many years in Douglas. Tillie and Freddie raised their four beautiful children, who went on to have their wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tillie and her two sisters were raised in Douglas and enjoyed and loved each other dearly. We know now that she has joined her husband and great grandson in heaven and is looking down on us.

She was a woman of quiet strength, modest, steadfast and deeply loving. Her stubborn spirit was matched only by the warmth she gave so freely to those around her, she taught us resilience, kindness and the true meaning of family. Though our hearts are aching with her absence, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace in a better place watching over us. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, never forgotten, and will be with us in our hearts, always. We would like to give a special thanks to Tillie's caregiver, her loving granddaughter-in-law Ashley who cared for her for over 10 years through her struggles with Alzheimer's. We are truly blessed to have had such a warm and caring person taking care of her.
