Obituary

Maria Jesus Aguilar Saavedra lovingly known as "Jessie" passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2013. Appropriately Our Lord sent her loving husband for her on what would have been their 67th wedding anniversary. She was born November 25, 1922 to Mariano and Refugia Aguilar in Pirtleville, Arizona and was raised along with 2 sisters and 5 brothers who have all preceded her in death. She was a devoted Wife, loving Mother and doting Nana, caring Sister and Aunt and precious Friend. She loved her family and her life's work was creating a loving atmosphere to all who came into her life.

She married Ygnacio "Nacho" Saavedra, who preceded her in death March 2012, on November 23, 1946 and they resided in Douglas until 2006 when health issues brought them to Queen Creek, Arizona to be closer to their children. The focus of her life had always been to raise her children Anita Asztalos, Robert Saavedra (Cindy), Norma Hurtado and Oscar Saavedra who passed away suddenly in July, 2012. When her 5 grandchildren were born she knew that God's love for her could not be greater until her 13 great grandchildren came along. The miracle of family was always her greatest love.

During her life in Douglas her passion was to be the extra pair of hands that were needed in everything that happened in her second home, St. Luke's Parish. She was always there to answer the call in whatever was needed by the priests, the nuns at Loretto School or her friends who all gave their time, love and energy to the community that had always given so much to her.

This dedicated Wife, Mother, Nana, Sister, Aunt and Friend was beautiful inside and out. Her blessed life was always sustained by her family and her strong Catholic faith. She will be greatly missed by all but her graceful, loving presence will remain in our hearts forever. We were blessed and grateful to have had her in our lives.

Visitation will be held at Brown Page Mortuary on Monday, December 2, 2013 between 6-7 pm with a Rosary for Jessie being recited at 7:00PM. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Bernard's Parish on Tuesday, December 3 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
