Beloved father Manuel "Nelson" Medina was a humble, hardworking man and father. He was a good provider and among his many occupations, he worked for the Douglas Phelps Dodge Smelter for 30 years, and as a prison guard for the Douglas Department of Corrections for close to ten years. Manuel enjoyed watching sports, listening to music, and gardening. He loved being in the outdoors watering, and tending to his many plants and fruit trees. He liked watching the U of A games and went to many Douglas "Bulldogs" sports events. His love of sports shined through when he served as a little league coach for many years in his beloved community of Douglas. Manuel was proud of and enjoyed living in the little community of Douglas where he was born and raised. He lived in this community for 89 years and raised ten beautiful children alongside his beautiful loving wife Armida Abril Medina. Manuel taught his children to always "stand up" for themselves, no matter what and go on with life. This philosophy helped him endure the many hardships throughout his own life. Manuel passed away at the age of 89 on September 7,2016 in Douglas, Arizona. Pre-deceased are his wife Armida Abril Medina, and son Luis Jesus Medina. He is survived by nine of his children; Rene Medina, Andy Medina, Manny (Cha Cha) Medina, David (Kathy) Medina, Frances Medina, Robert Medina, John (Nancy) Medina, Roxanne (Paul) Cooper, and Vicente (Priscilla) Medina, 17 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Manuel also leaves many extended family members in Arizona, California and Sonora. The memory of our father and his cheerful whistling will remain with us, as he joins our beloved Mother and Brother Lou in heaven, where we shall all come together again in God's time. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Calvary Cemetery with Father Martin Bosco officiating.
