Lydia Arzate, long time resident, died at home at the age of 90 after a long illness. Lydia was a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She is preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Richard Arzate (Pilingy); parents Francisco and Refugio Montion; brother Gilbert Montion; sister, Maria Dotores and grandson Marco Abrigo. Surviving are twin daughters Anna Louisa Abrigo and Anna Maria Robertson; brother, Edwardo Montion (Jenny), sisters, Pauline Bewernick (Bob) and Gloria Veronica Urquijo. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Sean Abrigo, Liza Washburn, Darrick Barraza, Christopher Campbell, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Lydia served as a Sr. Vice for the VFW for 9 years and was a life member, Treasurer of Club Alba Women's Auxiliary, member of the American Legion, Douglas Social Club, Secretary/Treasurer of the Calvary Cemetery Committee for 10 years, Red Cross volunteer, member of Arizona Dietetic Association, Supervisor WIC program, volunteer food bank, member of Immaculate Conception Church choir and volunteer for CCD. Most people will remember Lydia and Richard for managing the Bushmasters Club for many year and Lydia's famous Sunday botanas. They were also involved in the community and helped many people. Lydia was also known as the "Avon Lady" and "Tamale Lady" to her friends and family. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and love to her caregivers Letty and Carmen, her loving friend Sarah Saavedra and the wonderful staff of Valor Hospice Care, who took such loving care of her during her illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
