Lupe Quinonez, 88, of Douglas passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Lupe was born on September 22, 1927 in Douglas, Arizona where she resided her entire life. She spent most of her life devoted to being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her love of family turned a house into a home through her cooking, baking, sewing, and quilting. She enjoyed dancing with her husband, Memo, of 57 years who passed away September 11, 2003. They loved to travel, fish, camp, hunt, and spend time with their family. She lived with her daughter, Rosie Allen, after Memo's passing. Rosie's dedication to mom allowed mom to have a full life until joining him in heaven.
Lupe was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, The Legion of Mary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Although Lupe did not have a job outside the home, she worked hard every day to make sure her family was cared for with love.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Manuel (Memo) Quinonez, her parents Miguel and Juanita de la Torre and her siblings: Ruth Czepowski, Rebecca Urquijo, Enedina Bernal, Anselmo de la Torre, and Ana Maria (Tita) Moreno. She is survived by her brother Reynaldo de la Torre of Douglas and sister Nieves de la Torre of Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as her 9 children: Frances (Don) Andress, Julie (Steve) Lerch, Manuel (Lupe) Quinonez, Richard (Linda) Quinonez, Rosie Allen, Ana (Clint) Hill, Steve (Letty) Quinonez, Phillip (Sally) Quinonez and Emily (David) Velasco; her 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at St. Luke's Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 also at St. Luke's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
