Luis M. Esqueda, 84, of Douglas, Arizona, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, in the town he loved—where he was born, raised, and spent his life.

Luis was a devoted husband to Marilyn Esqueda and a loving father to Shelley Esqueda Rojas, Lisa Esqueda, and Toni Carrillo. He is also survived by his son, Albert (Samantha) Esqueda, with whom he reconnected a few years ago. He was a proud grandfather to Luis (Denisse) Rojas, Rene (Elizabeth) Rojas, Alejandro (Lucero) Carrillo, Andres Esqueda and his longtime partner, Jocelyn Varela, Emilee Carrillo, and Leilani Carrillo, and a cherished great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren.

Luis dedicated many years of service to the City of Douglas, retiring as a city government supervisor. He also proudly served in the National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to his community and country.

A man of deep faith, Luis loved God and lived his life with purpose and compassion. For 30 years, he faithfully served in prison ministry alongside his brother Tony, touching countless lives with his kindness and message of hope.

Luis was known for his quick wit and sense of humor—always ready with a clever remark that could make anyone smile. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and found joy in nature.
