Obituary

Lilian T. Vigil
January 9, 1927 – September 25, 2013
Lilian Vigil was born on January 9, 1927 in Stoke-on-Trent, Penkhull England and was the daughter of William and Lilian Thrasher.
On October 1, 1945 she married Vincent Vigil and as a war bride came to the United States. They would have celebrated their anniversary on that date 68 years later. As the wife of a career military man, Lilian traveled throughout the United States, Germany and England. She was a loving mother and wife who had a passion for lifelong learning and was an avid reader. Her talent for knitting was beyond measure and each of her children and grandchildren received her work of love with sweaters, slippers, and blankets.
Lilian had a love for children, not only her own, but also the children she worked with at Maryvale and Douglas High School as an instructional aide. Her immeasurable patience was well received and recognized as she joyfully helped them to learn.
Her "claim to fame" is that she taught CCD to many of the now adults living in Douglas. She loved serving God in a way that involved children.
Lilian is survived by her husband of 67 years, Vincent and five children; Gary (Norma), Gail, Tim (Alison), Bruce, and Andrew (Dawn). Eleven grandchildren enjoyed her antics; Stacey (Patrick), Tyler, Trevor, Seth, Dalen, Eric, Victoria, Brandon, Matthew, Derek and Baby Zachary. She was blessed with five great grandchildren and is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces in Arizona, California, Canada, and England as well as many lifelong friends.
As were her wishes, Lilian will be cremated and a memorial service held at a later date. Her battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's is over and she died peacefully in her home.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to your favorite charity, the Alzheimer's Association or Loretto School. In keeping with Lilian's spirit of giving, please consider a daily act of kindness in her memory.
Mema was loved beyond measure and will be missed, but she's up in heaven playing with Baby Zachary and having a cup of tea with her father, mother and siblings.
"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief...and unspeakable love." ---Washington Irving
