On March 26, 2015, after a beautiful spring sunset settled behind the mountains, a wonderful man stepped into his Eternal Home, leaving his pain and worries behind. Lenard R. Maddux passed away peacefully at home with his family and his adored Yellow Lab, Dusty, at his side.
Lenard was a lifelong resident of this area, growing up in Douglas, Arizona and later staking his land in Double Adobe, where he lived for more than 50 years. Born to Rece and Hazel (Stovall) Maddux on July 13, 1937, he graduated from DHS in 1955. Immediately following graduation, the young and handsome, Lenard R. Maddux, enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served until 1961. Lenard often shared many of his stories of his Navy travels and especially his time spent in Japan. Upon his return home, Lenard began working side-by-side with his father, Rece, in the family owned business then known as Maddux and Sons Trucking and Excavating. Upon the death of his father, Lenard took the business over and the legacy of Maddux and Sons, Inc. continued with his sons, Clint and Jimmy Maddux and Robert (Bobby) Lawson working by his side. This well known, trusted and respected local business continues to this day.
On October 27, 1979, Lenard married Linda L. Barrett and together they blended a family of nine children. Lenard R. Maddux will always be remembered as a hard working man of Integrity, Honor and Strength. A devoted husband, father and grandfather who hated drama and gossip and provided the leadership and love only a Proud Man could provide. You always knew where you stood with him but also felt his love and compassion from deep within his soul. Throughout the years, Lenard's leadership, integrity and passion for his business have been shared with his family as well as many loyal employees who have worked for him for many years. There is one legacy that he leaves behind that his sons and grandsons will surely emulate and that is the life he lived as a Trusted and Honorable Man.
Lenard is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Linda Barrett Maddux, his children, Barbara Maddux Hubacher (David), Jeanine Benson (Grant), Clint Maddux (Susan), James Maddux (Shawna) and their Mother, Mary Beedle. He also leaves his stepchildren, Tina Zazueta (Robert), Velvet Perry (John), David (Buddy) Lawson (Trudy), Robert (Bobby) Lawson and Kellie Lawson Maddux. The legacy of this amazing man will live on through his 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Additional Survivors include his sister Janet (Donald) Gill, nieces, Candy (Don) Milam, Leisa Gill and several great nieces, nephews and cousins who he adored. He was preceded in death by his grandparents as well as his parents, Rece and Hazel (Stovall) Maddux, his younger sister, Barbara (Bobbie) Maddux, several Aunts and Uncles and his nephew, Lynn Gill.
Services for Lenard R. Maddux will be officiated by Pastor Clint Highley of Valley Bible Church on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cochise County Fairgrounds in Douglas, Arizona. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Following the Burial, family and friends will return to the Cochise County Fairgrounds for a Pot Luck Reception. In lieu of flowers, Donations in Lenard's name may be made to the NRA.
Life as we know it will never be the same without the love, hugs and leadership of this amazing man but we are extremely thankful that he now walks briskly with no more pain or suffering.
To this wonderful man who we were blessed to have as our Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, Boss and Friend…You always said you would retire when you passed on so it is now your time to rest. We Love you and will miss you dearly every single day but we are confident you have heard God say, "Well Done my Good and Faithful Servant, come and sit with me"
