Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of Josephine Irey, our dear sweet wife, mother, grandmother "nana", tia and friend. Josephine passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024 after a short battle with cancer. Josephine "Josie" was born on April 30th, 1939 in Douglas Az. She was the daughter of Inocencio and Guadalupe Guerrero, and her step mother Santos Guerrero. Josie grew up in Douglas Az. and attended Clawson Elementary and 12 St. Jr. High. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1958. After graduation, she worked at Cochise College, Fort Huachuca, and Phelps Dodge as a secretary. She then became a legal secretary for Judge Richard A. Winkler at Superior Court in Bisbee until she retired. She is survived by her husband, Burgett "John" Irey, her daughters, Kim Stom and Michelle Arvayo (Richard) as well as her 11 grandchildren who she dearly loved. She is also survived by her sister, Cecil Vidal and brother, Frank Guerrero (Becky), and was also very close to her in-laws who live out of state. She is preceded in death by her son, Johnnie Irey as well as many siblings and family members. Josie will be remembered for her acts of kindness to all who knew her and for her bravery in which she faced life's challenges. She will be deeply missed but will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her.   Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 700 E. 10th St., Douglas, AZ.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Pallbearers who will serve are Andrew Arvayo, Nathan Arvayo, Dillon Arvayo, Romeo Irey, Max Irey and Nicolas Cazares.
