Obituary

On December 8, 2021 Josephina Medina Vasquez (Josie, Fina) passed away peacefully in her sleep.  She was 90 years old.  A lifelong Arizona native, Josephina was well-loved in her small town.  She was the mother of six children and one stepdaughter.  Despite her large family Josephina always made time for everyone.  She always provided support and love for her family.  She would proudly boast about all seven of her children and all their accomplishments.

Josephina was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Francisco Vasquez and daughter Bertha Foster.  She is survived by her 6 children as well as son and daughters in law: Francisco (Janet) Vasquez of Buffalo, NY, Henry Foster of Tucson, AZ, Virginia Rodriguez of Tucson, AZ, Antonio (Maria) Vasquez of Douglas, AZ, Alberto (Brenda) Vasquez of Douglas, AZ, Joey Vasquez of Tucson, AZ, and Gerardo (Elva) Vasquez of Tucson, AZ.

Josephina also leaves her 10 grandchildren: Brianne Christiano, Violeta Lopez, Nicole Baldenegro, Michelle Inzunza, Cynthia Ramirez, Kayla Coronado, Jordan Vasquez, Jerilynn Vasquez, Andrea Vasquez and Reyniece Barraza as well as her 11 great grandchildren; Noah and Trevor Christiano, Cienna Baldenegro, Annais Ramirez, Olivia and Thiago Inzunza, Enzo Coronado and Yaretzi, Alessandra, Aram and Krista Lopez.

When Josephina's children were young, the saying "stay-at-home-mom" did not exist.  It was customary for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked.  Josephina was an exceptional wife and mother.  She cared deeply for her family and neighbors.  She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was.  She was always the first to offer help.  She regularly brought meals to the homes of sick neighbors.  She always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy and happy.  She enjoyed visiting friends and family, going out to eat at "Little Mexico" in Douglas and shopping with friends at the local shops down G avenue.  Towards the end of her life she enjoyed resting on the coach watching western movies, the cooking channel and she was a fan who followed the "Diamondbacks" regularly.  She made sure to feed all those who came to visit and enjoyed cooking, FYI-she was great at it.  She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten in the hearts of all those whom she touched.

A Holy Rosary for Josephina will be recited at 10:15 am on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church.  A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Father Gilbert Malu following the Rosary at 11:00 am.  Following her wishes, Josephina will be cremated following the services.
