Jose B.
Medeguari
Oct 19, 1946 — Sep 26, 2023
Joe, a long-time resident of Tempe, Arizona, died surrounded by loved ones on September 26, 2023.
Born on October 19, 1946 to Pedro and Lydia Medeguari in Douglas, Arizona. Known to many as Joe and YoYo, he grew up around a large extended family filled with siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers Rene, Armando and Danny.
He graduated Douglas High School in 1965 and eventually enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967 during the Vietnam conflict and was honorably discharged 1969. He was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. For a time, he volunteered at the Phoenix Vet Center, assisting fellow veterans and was a long-time member of the American Legion and Military Order of the Purple Heart.
In his lifetime, he was employed at Thomas Furnishings and the Douglas Smelter in Douglas during the 70s. He moved to Anchorage Alaska in the late 80s and was employed by federal government civil service and eventually settled in with the United States Postal service. In the late 90s he transferred back to Arizona to be closer to family and worked with USPS until his retirement. Along the way, he made many friends and it was unlikely he didn't have a smile or a joke ready to share.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Maria; step-daughter Lyandra (Ernesto), and granddaughters Lilly and Laila; brothers Peter (Shelby), Tony (MaryEllen), Angel (Linda), Frank (Elsa); sister Brenda (Arturo); many nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and their families.
A Rosary for Joe will be recited at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Luke's Church, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
