Jose (Joe/Pelon) Hurtado, a father, grandfather, brother, as well as a Vietnam Veteran, and resident of Douglas Arizona, passed away on March 17, 2023 surrounded by family. Pelon, as he was known to many in the area, was born January 13, 1948 to Jose "Chito" and Juana (Marquez) Hurtado and attended Douglas High School (Class of 1966) before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Making the rank of Sgt., Pelon was in Thailand, Okinawa, Vietnam War with 2 tours, San Antonio and Davis-Monthan and he had many amazing stories. Pelon later worked for the City of Douglas Public Works as a mechanic and retired form there. He was a Hot Rod/Classic Car enthusiast. He was a proud member of the Viejitos Car Club Douglas Chapter and loved attending car shows, and hanging out with his friends with classic story telling time and jokes. He really enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Pelon was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ana, his parents, and granddaughter Gianna. He's survived by his daughters Karla (Steve) Estrada and Ana Celia (+Robert) Easterbrooks. His son Joe (Lizette) four grandchildren, Steve and Kayleen Estrada, Robert Easterbrooks and Arabella Hurtado. Sisters Mary (Armando) Maza, and Lucy Grijalva, and many nieces and nephews. His family has organized a memorial service to honor Pelon's life, which will be held at the Brown Page Mortuary for visitation on March 22, 2023 at 9:00-10:00 am. Rosary at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:15 am, followed by Mass at 11:00 am. Burial service to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
