José Jesús Acuña Vásquez passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loving family on January 21, 2018. He was born November 3, 1942 in Jecori, Sonora, Mexico and was a long-time Douglas resident.  He worked as a teacher in Agua Prieta, Sonora for many years where he established the nickname, Profé. He then worked in several maquiladoras in Agua Prieta and Douglas. In his final professional years he owned a small business. José Jesús was also a former member of the Club Rotario de Agua Prieta, where he displayed his passion for family, service and friendship.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Ignacio Acuña Escarcega and Rita Acuña Vasquez, his mother-in-law Josefina Owen, and brothers-in- law; Jose Cubas Gross and Guillermo Owen.  He is survived by his wife, Ana Rosa Owen Acuña, his twin sister, Hermelinda Cubas, his brother, Luis Carlos (Lupita) Acuña, daughters Ana (Jerry) Morales, Cynthia (Ruben) Robles, Wanda (Hector) Rivera and Jessica Acuña (Manuel Valencia) and eight grandchildren; Jeciana, Alicia, Hector, Lorenzo, Leyla, Rita, Jose, and Lance. He is also survived by his father-in-law, William Q. Owen, brothers and sisters-in-law; Lourdes Owen, Josie (Sam) Tardibuono, Susy Owen, John (Lupita) Owen, and Mary (Raul) Perez and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Many knew José Jesús for having a big presence and being a grand speaker with a love for poetry and literature.  If you had the pleasure of seeing José Jesús recently and asked him how he was doing he would enthusiastically say "muy enamorado".  This phrase perfectly described his outlook for family and life -- he loved them all.

He is described by his grandchildren as charismatic, caring, kind, great, loving, nice, perfect, and friendly.
