Jesus "Chuy" Escarcega, age 94, of Douglas Arizona, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023 surrounded by his family. Born in Bisbee AZ on January 25th 1929. We remember and celebrate the life of Chuy Escarcega, a man who embraced life with a passion that touched everyone around him. Chuy wasn't just a beloved friend; he was a devoted husband to his wife and a loving father to seven children, his family being the cornerstone of his world. Chuy served in the Navy military branch where he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands Navel base in Alaska and continued to supported all local military veteran programs. His commitment to community shone brightly through his active involvement in the Lions Club, where he dedicated time and effort to making a positive impact on the lives of others. He joined the Lions Club in 1965 and during this time, he served in various club capacities. Elected as Governor of Lions International Arizona District 21-B for 1979-80. Served two terms as Club President, Eye & Sight Chairman and served on the Lions Board of Directors.
Chuy had a zest for life that extended beyond family and community. Chuy found joy on the softball field, where his camaraderie and sportsmanship made him a cherished teammate. His love for the game was profound. He sponsored men's softball team leagues as well as youth baseball programs and played with the men's softball teams until the age of 77. Professionally, Chuy owned and operated J Chuy Escarcega Insurance Agency representing New York Life Insurance Company. His diligence and dedication meeting customer service needs were evident, earning him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Notable community involvement, Douglas Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, City of Douglas Planning and Zoning, DARC board member and volunteer, Salvation Army Board of Directors.
Chuy was preceded in death by his parents, Leoncio H Guerrero and Maria Louisa Guerrero, siblings Marcos Escarcega, Ramon Guerrero, Miguel Guerrero, Leoncio Boni Guerrero, Francisco Escarcega, Mariano Escarcega, and Rita Gonzalez.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carmen M Escarcega. Children, Jesus (Lisa), Maria Elsa, Rafael (Barbi), Ricardo, Antonio, Carlos (Annie), Danny (Nicole), 17 Grandchildren,
18 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Also survived by brothers and sisters, Frances Chavez, Johnny (Frances) Guerrero, Rachel (Joel ) Guerrero Morales, Ana Escarcega, Berta Escarcega Estrada, Miguel Angel (Eva) Escarcega, Nephews and Nieces.
As we celebrate Chuy's life, let us acknowledge the profound impact he had not only on our community but within the close-knit circle of his family. May the memories shared today serve as a reminder of the deep love and lasting legacy that Chuy leaves behind.
We bid farewell to Chuy, let us remember the legacy of a man whose life was defined by love, service, and a vibrant spirit. The stories we share are not just reflections of a life well-lived but testaments to the enduring impact he had on each and every one of us.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 8:00 am to 9:45 am at Brown Page Mortuary. A Rosary for Chuy will be recited at 10:15 am also on Wednesday at St. Luke's Catholic Church followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion, Post 11.
Pallbearers who will serve are Jesus Chuy Escarcega, Rafael Escarcega, Carlos Escarcega, Danny Escarcega, Daniel Antonio Escarcega, and Raul Vasquez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Antonio Escarcega, Ricardo Escarcega, Dominic Escarcega, Johnny Guerrero, George Gollihar and Eddie Gollihar.
