Our angel Irma Velasquez Flores, born in Empalme, Sonora, Mexico on April 3, 1937 gracefully passed on May 5, 2018. Joined in heaven and preceded by: parents - Rodolfo Velasquez Grijalva, Guadalupe Leon Grijalva, adoptive mother Josefa Velasquez Leon (Chepa), son - Ernesto, husband - Roberto, siblings - Carmen, Rodolfo, Ramon; best friend - Cookie Baldenegro.
Irma's Mother passed at age 3. She was brought to United States to live in Douglas, AZ by her adoptive mother Chepa, at age 8. Irma's devout Catholic spiritual devotion was a luminous light of love to life. She was gloriously connected with The Virgin of Guadalupe. Her calling was to serve others and walk in the path of Jesus. She worked for Douglas Unified School District for 38 years as an English aide and at the school cafeteria. Irma's home was always open and she was ready to cook tacos, enchiladas and infectiously make all around her happy. Her neighbors considered her the heart and soul of 8 th street. She volunteered in all aspects at Immaculate Conception Church and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion until she became ill. She was avid in the church choir and her angelic voice warmed our souls every day. Irma married Roberto Flores on July 31, 1954 and was married for 37 years until she became a widow in 1991. She is survived by her 8 children: Jorge Sr. (Marian), Robert Jr. "Chubby" (Martha), Edna (Joseph), Luis Sr., Elda, Marty (Anna), Hector Sr. (Grace), adopted son Rudy Mendoza (Verna); 16 grandchildren; Jorge Jr., Anick, Roxanne, David, Rene, Andrew, Jasmine, Jessica, Luis Jr., Dominic, Danae, Enrique, Jesus, Robert, Michelle, Hector Jr. and Justin; 26 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Rudy (Penny) Flores, sisters-in-law Rosa (Joe) Jacinto, Armida Dorame and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
