Heraclio Sierra Anaya Obituary

Heraclio Sierra Anaya departed this Earth and joined our Heavenly Father and Lord on Sunday morning, March 12, 2023.  He died peacefully in the comfort of his daughter Elvia's home surrounded by family members.

Heraclio S. Anaya is survived by his wife, Irma Holguin Anaya, and by his daughters and sons: Leticia Anaya, Elvia Anaya, Marcy Poet, Lorena O'Sullivan, Irma Moore, Raul Anaya, Osvaldo Anaya, Antonio Anaya, and Ruben Anaya.  He is also survived by his grandchildren: Gabriel Mihdawi, Faris Mihdawi, Nadeem Mihdawi, Sean Natoli, Roxy Natoli, Karina Anaya, Adrian Anaya, Jessica Poet, Julia Poet, Kaile Justine Maguan, Diego Anaya, Dante Anaya, Christina Anaya, Martin Anaya, Troy O'Sullivan, Alex O'Sullivan, Lucas Moore and Isabella Moore.  He is survived also by his great grandchildren: Amy Mihdawi, Gabriel Mihdawi Jr., Kason Natoli, Kinsley Natoli, Keaton Natoli and Kamden Natoli.  He is also survived by many other associated sons and daughters-in-laws as well as many other friends from Elfrida who cared about him.  Heraclio S. Anaya is also survived by his siblings (and their associated families): Tizoc Anaya, Olivia Anaya, Imelda Anaya, Romelia Cornidez, Merla Galaz, and Oracio Anaya.  Upon death, it is expected that he will join his deceased mother, Hortenzia, and deceased father, Heraclio, as well as his deceased siblings, Irma Perez and Oraldo Anaya and his deceased friend, Cecilio Solis, in the heavenly skies.

Heraclio S. Anaya was born on April 11, 1936 in the town of Colonia Morelos, Sonora, Mexico.  He was the first son of Heraclio Anaya Higuera and Hortensia Sierra Figueroa.  He grew up in a ranch located near the picturesque town of San Miguel de Bavispe, Sonora, Mexico and as an adult, his family moved to the border town of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico where he met his wife, Irma Holguin Coronado (originally from El Tigre, Sonora, Mexico) at a local dance.

Heraclio S. Anaya immigrated to the United States around May 1960 and on January 7, 1961, he married Irma H. Coronado in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico.  The couple had eight children prior to the entire family immigrating to the United States in 1973.  Their last child was born in Douglas, Arizona prior to the family relocating permanently in Elfrida, Arizona in 1974.

Heraclio S. Anaya was a simple, honest and hard-working man with very strong family values.  His main train of thought or focus seemed to be working, keeping busy, and family.  Working and watching his kids participate in sports seemed to make him happy. He was not interested in trips, movies, or other traditional entertainment activities nor dwindled in depression or other psychological problems to deal with life issues.   He preferred to be upfront with life issues, take the blows as they came, and handled life problems or conflicts by staying busy doing manual work activities.  Since he grew up as a farmer and rancher prior to immigrating to the United States, he never lost the passion for agriculture nor for raising animals.   He loved gardening, repairing things and engaging in carpentry, car mechanics, plumbing, etc. to accomplish many different home repairs.  With minimum resources, he alone constructed and added rooms to his home to accommodate a growing family.

Heraclio S. Anaya experienced hardship and sadness in life as any other human being on earth.  He experienced medical setbacks, job setbacks, and raising kids' setbacks with a fortitude that was rare to see.  When his relatives died, he experienced the loss and the sadness associated with losing family members.  But in the midst of it all, he was always grateful for the family that he had raised and his family was his main source of pride and joy.

He generally supported his family by working primarily in agriculture and construction.  When he retired, his life primarily consisted of growing crops, tending sheep, and repairing things.  He always found something to keep him busy in the house.  For relaxation, he enjoyed watching news on TV and keeping up with current worldwide events.  He also enjoyed two sports: boxing and baseball.   He enjoyed ranchera music as this music reminded him of his youth.  He specifically liked to listen to Vicente Fernandez, Javier Soliz, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Antonio Aguilar, and Lucha Villa, but he did not like the songs from Paquita La Del Barrio because he felt this singer seemingly insulted men too many times in her songs.

Heraclio S. Anaya, along with his wife Irma, enjoyed being grandparents who always wanted to hear news about their grandkids. They enjoyed traveling to visit their many children and grandchildren who lived across different states.  Despite his grand and great-grandchildren not speaking his Spanish language, "Tata" had a way of making every one of them feel special and loved.

Heraclio S. Anaya enjoyed walks in Elfrida to check the mail or to buy things from the local store.  He enjoyed these walks as he usually used these walks to talk to as many people as possible that he met along the way.  He called these folks acquaintances but he considered only two people from Elfrida to be his best friends:  Cecilio Solis and Roger Major.  He enjoyed spending time with Cecilio, an almost 40+ years long-time friend, with whom he liked to share some whiskey and tequila to talk about "the good ol' times".   From time to time, he also enjoyed visiting his other former boss and friend, Roger Major. He often said that "Roger was the best boss/friend he ever had." Heraclio S. Anaya had very few close friends but the ones he had, he considered to be of high quality and caliber!

Heraclio S. Anaya was not a religious man but always believed in God, in doing the right thing, in honesty, and in hard work to achieve any objective.   His advice was generally simple, perhaps a little abrupt at times, but always highly effective.  To handle rowdy teenagers, he would advise "You know very well the difference between doing bad and doing good. If you don't listen and you end up in jail, you are going to stay there because we're not going to bail you out!"  To handle growing adult pains, he would advise: " The best thing one can do in this life is to sleep comfortably without owing anything to anyone! Neither owe money nor owe pending fights. When you do not have to run from something or someone, you can sleep well."  Once, he was asked what he considered successful parenting.  He replied: "A parent has been successful if at the end of the years, your children are willing to offer you a cup of coffee and are willing to visit you in your old age."

Heraclio S. Anaya's advice came from life experiences and from the heart and not necessarily from books, as he never had the opportunity to even complete elementary school in Mexico.  Yet, with his strong work ethic and wisdom, he propelled all his nine children to set high standards for themselves and to complete a college education and/or military job training.

Heraclio S. Anaya left a legacy to his children of living and dying by example.  At all times, he was a simple, funny, courageous, honest, hard-working man who lived and died according to Frank Sinatra's song "My Way."

My Way

"And now the end is near

And so I face that final curtain

My friend I'll say it clear

I'll state my case, of which I'm certain

I've lived a life that's full

I traveled each and every highway

And more, much more than this

I did it, I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few

But then again too few to mention

I did what I had to do

I saw it through without exemption

I planned each charted course

Each careful step along the byway

And more, much more than this

I did it, I did it my way

Yes, there were times I'm sure you knew

When I bit off more than I could chew

But through it all, when there was doubt

I ate it up and spit it out

I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved

I've laughed and cried

I've had my fill

My share of losing and now

As tears subside

I find it all, so amusing

To think I did all that

And may I say

Not in a shy way, Oh No, Oh No, not me,

l did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got?

If not himself then he has naught

To say the things that he truly feels

And not the words of one who kneels

Let the record shows I took all the blows and did it my way.

Yes, it………. was my way."

Mi Manera (My Way)

Y ahora el final se acerca

Y entonces me enfrento a esa cortina final

Mi amigo te lo dire claro

Declararé mi caso, del que estoy seguro.

He vivido una vida plena

Remordimientos, he tenido algunos

He amado

He reido y llorado

Tuve mi parte

Me toco perder

Y ahora, mientras las lagrimas disminuyen

Encuentro todo tan divertido

Pensar que hico todo esto

Y puedo decir,

No en una manera timida

Oh, No, Oh, No, Yo no.
