Georgina "Ginny" Ortega passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 25, 2026. Ginny was born to George and Dolores Lopez on November 14, 1936. She spent the majority of her 89 years in Douglas, with the last seven spent in Sahuarita. Ginny was married to Daniel Ortega for 56 years before his passing in 2019. Together they raised five kids and ran Ortega's Stores, Inc where Ginny worked as a bookkeeper.
Ginny was a devout Catholic and woman of great faith, praying the rosary daily until her last days, and she ensured that her children understood the importance of keeping God in their lives.
Ginny was very active in the Douglas community where she and Daniel instilled the importance of community service in their children. She was involved in the Douglas Women's Club, the Douglas Lioness Club, the Bushmaster's Auxiliary, St. Luke's Social Concerns, and helped teach CCD at St. Luke's Church. A memorable time with family was filling boxes at St. Vincent De Paul which would be distributed at Thanksgiving.
Ginny enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas, where she ensured anyone attending Christmas dinner had a stocking filled with goodies. She was a wonderful, caring, and loving mom who welcomed all with open arms. She was honored as Woman of the Year and Lioness of the Year, but her proudest moments were spent supporting her kids, grandkids and great grandkids in all their activities and events. Her last few years were spent helping out at Our Lady of the Valley Church in the religious ed program, still supporting her grandkids. Ginny was preceeded in death by her husband Danny, her sister Tillie Ortega, her grandson John Ortega, and her great grandchildren Briella Gonzalez, Lily Romero, and Baby Daniel Ortega. She is survived by her children Cecilia (Sergio) Romero, Danny (Anne) Ortega, Gina (Louie) Tartaglia, Geri (Ed) Gardea, and Gabriel (Lisa) Ortega, and by her sister Dolores Arvizu. She will be lovingly remembered by her 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Services for Ginny will be on Friday, November 06, 2026 at St. Luke's Catholic Church with a rosary at 10:30 am followed by Mass at 11:00 am and burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Brown-Page Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Soulistic Hospice, La Posada Adult Services, Cynthia Saenz, and Denisse Ruiz for being so supportive and comforting during mom's last years and days. We greatly appreciate all you did for her for us.
