Beloved Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Great-Great Grandfather, Uncle and special friend to so very many, GEORGE MELVIN HERBERT, age 98, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at his home surrounded by loving family members.

George was born on July 27, 1920, in Douglas, Arizona to Melvin George Herbert and Maybird Haynie Herbert.

He is survived by a brother, Wilson Herbert of Douglas, sister, Cleo Duthie of Safford, and brother–in-law, Duane Richins (Camille) of Mesa.

He is also survived by his daughters, Penny Maklary of Douglas, Diane (Reed) Kempton of Yuma, and Sherri (Don) Driggs of Yuma.

He leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, brother Richard Patrick Herbert, son-in-law Julius "Mac" Maklary, and grandson Michael Bryan Babicky.

George was a graduate of Douglas High School.

George married Evelyn Lamar Richins in the Mesa Temple on November 22, 1940, a marriage that lasted 71 years.

George was first and foremost a loving husband and father.  He was a hard worker.  He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and later, because of an early loss of an eye, opened his own construction and tile business.  George was a prankster and fun-loving.  He was an avid hunter and pinochle card player.  He enjoyed painting bunny or animal faces on scratches and scrapes.  George loved sunsets, hunting anything in season, and all parts of nature.   He rode a bicycle for many years and to impress others rode it backwards.

George, lovingly known as "Old Buzzard", was loved by so very many and will be greatly missed by them.

We will remember in our own special way his grin, his pranks, his taping of his head to let you know he was thinking or smart, his love of the outdoors and nature and everything that made him so special in all our lives will live on through our memories.  Please rest in peace until we meet again.

Viewing will be on Friday, May 3 ^rd from 5-7 pm at Brown Page Mortuary.  Family visitation will be on Saturday, May 4 ^th from 12:30-1:30 pm with funeral services at 2:00 pm.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
