Obituary

On Monday March 25, 2024 Ernie Torres Verdugo, loving husband, brother, uncle, cousin and father of three children passed away at the age of 72.

Ernie was born in Douglas, AZ to Rogelio and Hope Verdugo. He proudly served in the navy on the U.S.S. Durham and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. On February 23, 1974 he married his first wife Yolanda Verdugo. They raised one son, Ernie Verdugo Jr. and 2 daughters, Naomi Altamirano and Reyna Pelayo. He was later remarried to Delin Verdugo on June 15, 2002, who continued to be his love and support in his later years.

Ernie was a loving family man who enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Ernie enjoyed listening to music and loved spending time singing karaoke as well as spending nights with his wife and friends at the American Legion and VFW. He was known for his infectious laugh, his happy personality and his loving spirit.

Ernie was preceded in death by his father Rogelio, his mother Hope, and his brother Ruben Verdugo. He is survived by his wife Delin Verdugo, his three children, Naomi (Rudy) Altamirano, Ernie, Jr. and Reyna (Emilio) Pelayo, his brother's Daniel Verdugo, Ricky Verdugo, Greg Torres and his sister Grace Rodriguez as well as his 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 5:30 pm at Brown Page Mortuary. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. Luke's Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Post 11.  Pallbearers who will serve are Greg Torres, Ernie Verdugo, Jr., Armando Machado, Emilio Pelayo, Reyes Pelayo, Rudy Altamirano, Norberto Garcia and Estevan Garcia.  Honorary Pallbearers are Daniel Verdugo and Ricky Verdugo.  Flowers or donations can be sent to 910 F Ave, Douglas AZ 85607.
