Emma A.
Sabin
Jan 5, 1935 — Jun 6, 2022
Emma Arvizu Sabin, 87 of Tucson passed away peacefully on Monday June 6 th , 2022. Emma was a caring mother, grandmother, and wife. She has now left us to join Jesus Christ our Savior and her loved ones in heaven and will forever be at peace.
She was born in Mexico to Apolonio and Maria Arvizu on January 5, 1935. After arriving to the United States and becoming a US citizen, Emma completed school and worked at the Kress Store and Lyric Theater in Douglas. She met and married Engel A. Sabin on September 29, 1957. Together they had four children: George, Suzanne, Leilani, and Claudia. Emma also worked at JCPenney's and later became a teacher's aide for the English Language Learners at what used to be the 12th Street Junior High. When she moved to Tucson in the 90's she continued to work as a para pro for TUSD and loved helping middle school students learning Ballet Folklorico. She was their "go to" person for seamstress work that included making and/or altering beautiful costumes. She was fully retired during the last 20 years.
Emma enjoyed having guests over for card playing or for carne asada meals. She loved being surrounded by family. Emma also enjoyed great music, dancing, and dinners at the American Legion. Fashion, hairstyles, sewing, and painting were among her hobbies to name a few. In recent years, she liked to donate money to the Tohono O'odham and Pascua Yaqui Tribes at their respective casinos. What she was most proud of was seeing her children graduate high school and go on to complete their post-secondary educations, marry, and provide her with grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, their significant others, and her grandchildren. Children include George Sabin (Mary), Suzanne Sabin-Gyves (Cliff), Leilani Nissen (Tim Lawless), Claudia Allen (Todd). Grandchildren include Cynthia Amezquita (Michael), Eric Sabin; Grant and Paxton Gyves; Court, Emily and James Nissen; and Emma and Kalyn Allen.
A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday morning, June 14th from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the Brown-Page Funeral Home followed by a Rosary at 10:00 AM. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Immaculate Conception Church at 11:00 AM. (Please be advised, the church is requesting everyone follow mask protocols). Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers are Court Nissen, James Nissen, Eric M. Sabin, Grant Gyves, Paxton Gyves and Emma Allen. Honorary Pallbearers are
Francisco Arvizu, and Victor Valenzuela. Following the interment, a celebration of life will commence at the American Legion Post 11.
A heartfelt "thank you" to all who have reached out to our family with condolences and to those who attend her services. Emma will be deeply missed.
