Elvia M. Young, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024.  She spent her last days surrounded by her family and close friends.

Elvia was born on May 1, 1941 in El Tigre, Sonora, Mexico to Francisco and Maria Del Rosario Martinez.  She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ray Sr. and children Ray Jr. (Partner, Ben), Lorraine (Partner, Angel) and her grandson Cesar Daniel (Partner, Viviann).  She is also survived by her sisters, Alicia, Graciela and Martha Sylvia.  She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Mary and her brothers Jose, Rogelio and sister Etelvina.

Even though Spanish was her primary language, Elvia never let that stop her.  In her earlier years, she and her husband Ray were avid bowlers.  Elvia competed in many state, national and international bowling tournaments, achieving multiple tournament titles.  Many lifelong friendships were formed in the process.  She went on to become President of the local women's bowling league, while also remaining actively involved with multiple Bowling Associations.

Elvia also served as the first President of the Douglas Lioness Club, where she was actively involved in many community events.  She had a passion for traveling, which she enjoyed doing with her family.  She was fortunate to visit various countries, which inspired her to start her teacup and knick knack collection.

Elvia was devout to her Catholic faith.  She volunteered her time at the Immaculate Conception Church rectory, which later turned into a full time position.  For the last nine years, she struggled with serious health issues, limiting her day to day activities.  Her faith and love of family helped her remain positive and guided her through these difficult times.

She will be greatly missed, however, her love and passion for life will forever be instilled with those that loved her.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday Mach 17, 2024 at Brown Page Mortuary with a Holy Rosary being recited at 5:30 p.m.  A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers who will serve are Cesar Daniel Plascencia, Tony Young, Jr., Anthony Mejia, Edgardo Cornejo, Sergio Aldecoa and Roman Murguia.
