Obituary

Elena Almada Quijada passed away while hiking with friends in Monument Valley in Northern Arizona on July 23, 2016 at 27 years of age. She was born September 13, 1988 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. She was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Douglas AZ. Elena was a bright young woman with a ferocious will to serve her community. She graduated with honors from Douglas High School in 2006 at the top of her class and in subsequent years went on to the University of Arizona where she graduated first with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and then as a Doctor of Pharmacy. During her time in university, Elena served and organized several medical brigades to Honduras where she helped instruct countless rural communities on manners of personal and public health. She hoped to use her knowledge to care not only for her parents but also to anyone who would need it. Elena was a fearless world traveler. She traveled all across the United States and parts of Mexico and Honduras, always serving her fellow class and work mates. She is survived by her beloved parents, Ernesto and Elena Almada, one younger sister, Alex Almada, and a big family and friends who will miss her very much. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Elena Almada Quijada falleció en Julio 23 2016 en Monument Valley en el Norte de Arizona a los 27 años de edad. Nació en Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico el 13 de Septiembre de 1988. Fué enterrada en el Cementerio de Calvary en Douglas AZ. Elena era una joven con un futuro brillante y tenia una sed insaciable para servir a su comunidad. Elena se graduó de Douglas High School en el 2006 con honores. En los años que siguieron, atendió la Universidad de Arizona donde se graduó primero con una licenciatura en Microbiología y un doctorado en Farmacología. Durante el tiempo que estuvo en la universidad, atendió y organizo varias brigadas medicas a Honduras donde instruyo a innumerables comunidades rurales en asuntos de salud personal y publica. Ella esperaba usar su conocimiento para cuidar no solo de la salud de sus padres si no también de quien pudiera necesitarlo. Elena fué una viajera que no sentía temor. Viajó sobre todos los Estados Unidos y a partes de México y Honduras siempre sirviendo a sus compañeros de escuela y trabajo. Le sobreviven sus queridos padres Ernesto y Elena Almada, su querida hermana menor, Alex Almada, y una familia grande y amigos que la extrañarán muchísimo.
