Eleanor R. Foster, a native resident of Douglas, AZ died peacefully in her home on Saturday the 4th of April, just shy of her 95th birthday. She was born on May 14, 1920 at the original Douglas Hospital to Mary Eleanor and William Reynard. Her two brothers, William and Robert, her sister Gladys, and her son Dr. Douglas D. Foster preceded her in death. Eleanor graduated from Douglas High School in 1938 and continued her education at the Teachers College in Flagstaff, now known as Northern Arizona University. College is where she met the love of her life, Chester Aaron Foster ("Chet"). They were married for 53 years until his death in 1996. Together they had four children: Dr. Douglas D. Foster, Mike Foster (Sandy), Jim Foster (Claudia), and Donna Foster Orozco. Eleanor was the office manager for Dr. George A Spikes, took care of insurance at the Southwest Medical Center for the offices of Dr. Smith and Dr. Groeshuf, and worked for the Douglas Credit Union until her retirement. Eleanor, otherwise known as mom, Nanny, and Auntie Eleanor, was an avid bowler and an active member of the Women's Bowling Association and of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Until the very end of her life she enjoyed going to church, playing Bridge, joining friends for Lunch Bunch, and having her hair and nails done. Until the very end, she strived to stay as busy as her tiring body would allow. She was devoted to her family, and her greatest joy came from her four children, ten grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren and her legacy will live on in them. She taught us to keep the door to our hearts open so that we can create compassion and so that we can be joyful and kind. She taught us to praise the beauty and the riches in our lives. We were blessed and proud to have had this loving and passionate woman in our life. Our lives will never be the same with her gone. Even though we miss her dearly, and will always miss her, we are comforted in knowing that she was more than ready for her journey home to be with God. She is free of pain and heavy burdens. Now she is dancing with her husband, doting on her son, and rejoicing with the loved ones who have been waiting for her for a long time. Rest in peace and fly with the angels. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with Father Richard Aguilar officiating. Burial of her ashes will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Craig Orozco, Brian Orozco, Eddie Foster, Bill Foster, Garrett Foster and Adam Foster.
