Obituary

Doris Jean Dees, 86, of Douglas, AZ passed away March 18, 2018 at her home surrounded by loving family.  Doris Dees was born in Douglas, AZ on June 16, 1931 to Walter and Christial Hill. Doris was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Christial Hill, her loving husband of 62 years Douglas Dees, her brothers Jack, Eddie and James Hill and grandson Aaron Dees. Doris Dees leaves behind her children Steve Dees, Debby Gabilondo, Deanna Vasquez and Danni (Robin) Dees. Grandchildren Sonda (Mark) Goss, Heather (Joshua) Wright, Tony Gabilondo, Crystal (Samuel) Cherry and Angel (Mariah) Vasquez. Also part of her loving family is fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and family that loved her dearly. Doris Dees, a native of Douglas, AZ graduated from Douglas High School in 1949. She married the love of her life Douglas William Dees in 1950. Together they raised a family of four children in Douglas, AZ where she was able to have a career and a family with the support of their families. She was hired on to Southern Arizona Auto Company a week after she graduated high school. She then worked for Phelps Dodge Mercantile and Bledsoe Mauzy Motors as a secretary. In April 1963, she started working part time for Cochise College. At this time the administrative offices were located at the Gadsden Hotel.  In July of the same year she was hired full time as a book keeper and a secretary to the College Business Manager. Doris proudly worked for Cochise College for nearly 30 years. During this time, she served as the administrative assistant to eight Cochise College Presidents. In 2015 she was inducted into the Cochise College Hall of Fame.  Care has been entrusted to Brown-Page Mortuary, visitation will be held March 23 from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 700 E. 10th St, Douglas, AZ March 24, 2018 at 10:00 am.  Her burial will follow in the Veterans' Section of Calvary Cemetery. Following the funeral services, a celebration of life will be held at Cochise College Douglas Campus from 2pm to 4pm. Pallbearers will be Mike Dees, Angel Vasquez, Angel Vasquez Jr, Joshua Wright, Tony Gabilondo, Ruben Vasquez and Samuel Cherry. Honorary Pallbearers are Harold Dees, Earl Dees, Christian Dees, Trevor Dees, Kaden Storer, Ayden Wright, Landen Wright, Danny Vasquez, Abel Cherry, Gary Mortenson, Dale Mortenson, Andy Kniffen, Tony Herrera and all of her extended family, close friends and dear loved ones. Doris loved her family, loved to sing and loved the Lord with all her heart. She will truly be missed. Thanks you to all the many care-takers that have helped during these last couple years. A very special thank you to Isel Pedroza, who not only was a care taker, but also became family and gave so much love and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any organization that is fighting to find a cure for Alzheimer's.
