Obituary

Dimitar Stoyanof quietly passed away on October 5, 2015 in his home in Sierra Vista at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Guadalupe Stoyanof, their five children and thirteen grandchildren, a sister Vera Simovski, and brother John Cosmos. Dimitar immigrated from Yugoslavia to the United States in 1954. He was drafted by the US Army Signal Corp on June 14th, 1956. Due to his ability to speak 7 languages fluently, he served with the military intelligence division early in his career where he served two tours in Vietnam. After 20 years of exemplary service, retired on February 28, 1977 at the rank of Master Sergeant (E8) earning many commendations and citations. Dimitar later served as a peace officer with the Douglas Police Department from April 1977 to May 1980 working as the city's primary Youth Anti-Drug Program Coordinator. He was active in serving in the local Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Douglas chapter. He graduated with honors from the University of Arizona in December of 1982 with a Bachelor's Degree. He then entered Civil Service with the Department of the Army in 1982 where he worked at Fort Huachuca's Military Intelligence School as an instructor until his full retirement in January 1993. In 2001 he moved to Sierra Vista to enjoy his retirement years. Dimitar was a man of God and loved by all. He will be missed deeply. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15th 2015 at Brown Page Mortuary, 910 F Ave. Douglas, Arizona with a Rosary being recited at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 16th 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 850 10th Street, Douglas, Arizona. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fort Huachuca Honor Guard, the American Legion and VFW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Valor Hospice Care, 1048 E. Fry Blvd., Suite E, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635-2683.
