David N. Encinas, a man who lived a full life, passed away on January 16, 2016, following a brief illness. He was born on February 24, 1924 to Procopio and Carmen Encinas in Agua Prieta. After living briefly in Agua Prieta, he, along with his family moved to Bisbee Junction where he lived for a while. He also lived in Fairbank, Arizona before enlisting in the U. S. Army in 1943. He served in World War II in the European Theater. Following his service in Europe, David decided that the military was his calling. Afterwards, he also fought in the Korean War. Having fulfilled his war time service, he later became a drill instructor for the rest of his military career, finally retiring in 1971. After his retirement, he moved to Douglas, where he lived the rest of his life. One could hardly call his life in Douglas as retirement since his time was always filled with so many activities, namely doing some construction work around town and keeping himself in wonderful shape by doing some long walks and some strenuous workouts, a practice he continued until he turned 90. Never having married, he had few survivors: his sister-in-law, Josefina Encinas, who lives in Douglas; his nephews David, a teacher in Tucson, and Danny, a military advisor in Alexandria, Virginia; his niece, Martha, from Seal Beach in California. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, January 21, at St. Luke's Catholic Church with a Holy Rosary being recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. There will be no burial afterwards since he will be cremated and inurnment will be held at the Southern Arizona Veteran's Cemetery in Sierra Vista at a later date.
