Obituary

Daniel Ortega passed away peacefully July 28, 2019 at the age of 86. He was born on November 16, 1932 to Juan and Concepcion Ortega. Daniel was the 8th of 12 children. Daniel graduated from Douglas High School in 1952 then proudly served in the United States Air Force as a member of the 23rd Bombardment Squadron. He was honorably discharged in 1956.

Upon returning home, Daniel began helping run the family shoe stores in Douglas and Sierra Vista. In 1959 Daniel married his sweetheart Georgina Lopez and together they raised five wonderful children; Cecilia (Sergio) Romero, Danny Jr. (Anne) Ortega, Gina (Louie) Tartaglia, Geri (Ed) Gardea and Gabriel (Lisa) Ortega. They were blessed with 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren who have filled their hearts and home with love.

Daniel was very active in the local community serving in various clubs and organizations. He was a member of the Douglas Noon Lions Club, the American Legion, the Bushmaster's Club, the IDA, and graciously helped out at St. Luke's Church.  He was very supportive of all local sports organizations and a proud Bulldog supporter, but most of all he loved his Dallas Cowboys.

Daniel was a man of great faith and instilled the values of faith, family and community in his children and grandchildren.  He will be dearly missed.

A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019 at St. Luke's Catholic Church.  A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated following the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. also at St. Luke's Church.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, the American Legion and VFW.

We, his family, would like to thank Haven of Douglas for the wonderful care they gave our husband/dad/tata during his time there. We truly appreciate all you did for him.
