Chuck Hoyack entered into Heaven on September 28, 2017. Born on October 9, 1959 in Santa Monica, California; Chuck grew up in Scottsville, New York, and Tucson. Chuck graduated from Canyon del Oro High School, the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University. Chuck was a student coach on the 1980 National Championship baseball team at the University of Arizona. Chuck worked as an assistant baseball coach at Pima Community College, before starting his life work at Cochise College. There he helped lead the Apaches to Junior College World Series appearances in 1988 and 1989 as an assistant coach; as well as serving as the head coach from 1990-1993. In addition to his work as a coach, Chuck was a History instructor, Chair of Social Sciences, Dean of Instruction, and finally, Dean of Liberal Arts.

Chuck was a resident of Douglas for 32 years, serving his community in a variety of ways: a member and president of the Douglas Unified School District Governing Board; Douglas Noon Lions Club; Stevenson, Huber, and Douglas High School PTSOs; a team captain and chair of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life; Douglas Area Community Fund; Cochise Area Community Foundation, First Things First; a coach and president of the Douglas T-Ball League; Douglas Kids Klub; Turning Point; among others.

He was a faithful member of St. Luke's Catholic Church where he served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and a Religious Education Teacher, having taught the 3rd grade First Communion class and 8th grade Confirmation. Chuck was a man of great faith, who had complete trust in God. He knew that regardless of his difficult illness, God would care for him and his family in the end.

Aside from his work and service to his community and his Church, Chuck loved life and relished each day. His sense of humor was incredible, and he knew how to bring a laugh or smile to anyone's face. He enjoyed hunting; fishing; running; Bob Seger; the Beatles; American history; anything with peanut butter and chocolate; editing his sons' essays; spending time with his beloved wife; and sports, especially the game of baseball and his beloved Arizona Wildcats. Nobody had better knowledge and enthusiasm for baseball than Chuck; and nobody was a bigger fan of the Cats.

Chuck was devoted to his family, friends, co-workers, students, athletes, and anyone who needed help in life. He believed strongly in service: to his loved ones and his community. His philosophy in life was to "do good and be good", and it will surely live on in the countless people whose lives he touched.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Alvina; sons Casey and Patrick; mother Elsie; brother Mark (Jeri) Hoyack; sisters Sharon (Dom) Scala, and Terri Hoyack; grandmother Peggy Williams; father and mother in-law Roberto and Conception Muñoz; sisters-in-law Ana (Joe) Salcido, Veronica, Cornelia, and Patsy Muñoz; 10 nieces and nephews; 5 great nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends all across the United States. He is reunited in Heaven with his father, Jim Hoyack, after 15 years apart.

The Holy Rosary will be recited on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 7 pm at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 1211 E. 15th Street, Douglas, AZ. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Luke's. Chuck will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery following the Mass. A reception will be held at 1 pm, at the Cochise College Student Union.
