Celia V. Salazar, was born October 27th, 1922 in Esqueda, Sonora to Jesus and Margarita Valdez.
She passed away in her home with family by her side on Saturday, December 23rd, 2023.
Celia lived in Douglas, AZ most of her life. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1941.
After high school, she worked at Kress, for approximately fifteen years. She then proudly served
as a Cochise County Deputy Juvenile Probation Officer for thirty years. During her time of
service, nearly every youngster had heard of Mrs. Salazar.

Celia believed in helping her friends and community. She was active in St. Luke's church
fundraisers. She was a leader in Club Selene and La Sociedad Mutualista de Obrero Mexicanos.
She was an officer with the local Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime
member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Douglas
Democrats.

Celia loved to talk about her younger years growing up in Douglas. She was an athletic third
baseman with the Douglas Jitterbugs. She took pleasure in singing with the St. Luke's Choir. She
enjoyed playing cards with her Canasta Ladies. Most of all, she enjoyed attending family parties
where she could sing and dance.

Celia was preceded in death by her husband Reynaldo P. Salazar, by her daughter Brenda V.
Salazar, parents Margarita and Jesus Valdez, siblings, Petra, Angelina, Ventura, Edmundo,
Efrain, Norma, Humberto and Rene Valdez. She is survived by her grandson Del and his wife
Adazila Cabarga; her granddaughter Brenda Lee and her husband Tom Chadwick; her
great-grandchildren Karen and Liana Cabarga, and Sebastian, Ellie and Teo Schubert; and her
great-great-grandsons Oliver and Lucas Cabarga-Gutierrez.

Celia was truly a remarkable woman who lived a blessed life. She will be remembered for her
commitment to her family, friends, community and catholic faith. A memorial mass for her will be
held Saturday, February 17th, 2024, at St. Luke's Church at 11:00 am, followed by a celebration
of life at the American Legion Hall in Douglas, AZ.
