Obituary

Carmen F. Mendez fell asleep in death on January 3, 2016. She was 86 years old. She was born on July 31, 1929 to Martin and Rafaela Flores in Durango, Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty eight years, Victor Mendez of Douglas, Arizona. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Raymundo, Onorato and Miguel Flores as well as her sisters Elena Flores, Ofelia Sosa and Maria Sostenes Pedroza. Carmen is survived by her niece Victoria and husband Dennis McCloskey of Douglas, AZ. Her nephews David Martin and wife Maria de la Luz Flores, of El Paso, TX, Miguel and wife Martha Flores of Houston, TX and niece Maria del Carmen Villa of Juarez, Mexico and Victor J. and wife Veronica Mendez of Douglas, AZ as well as numerous nephews and nieces. At the age of eight years old, Carmen lost her parents in death and moved to live with her sister Ofelia in Sacramento, CA. In 1966 she moved to El Paso, TX, worked as an office manager for LB Price Mercantile Co. and retired after twenty years of service. After Carmen's move to El Paso, she began studying the Bible with her sister-in-law, Margarita. The more she learned, the stronger her faith became in God's promise of the resurrection. On July 26, 1968, Carmen was dedicated and baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Carmen looked forward to seeing the fulfillment of this promise, of seeing her parents and loved ones return to life in perfect conditions in Paradise on earth. She remained active for as long as her health allowed, sharing the good news to all she could. Carmen will always be remembered for her kind and mild manner. She was always hospitable and generous with family and friends. We will miss her very much and look forward to seeing her again perfect and happy! Memorial services for Carmen will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2277 N. Washington Ave. in Douglas, AZ. Elder Jeff Thomas will be conducting her services.
