Charly was born to James Alfred and Maria Luz Valenzuela Nolan in Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico on December 1, 1941. He joined three older half brothers, William, Albert and Santiago Nolan. Seven years later, his sister, Maria, was born. He grew up around a large family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He never married and had no children.

In his teen years, he lived with his brother William in La Lomitas, California. He worked various jobs, but didn't seem to find the right one. He had a desire to learn and travel, so he enlisted and served two years in the Army National Guard, and four years in the Air Force as a Military Police officer. He was stationed in Arizona, Alabama, New Mexico, Texas, New York, and Germany. While he was stationed in Germany, it gave him an opportunity to travel to France, and he visited many iconic landmarks. Upon discharge, he returned to California. Soon after, he returned to Douglas.

In the early 70s, he was employed by the Douglas Unified School District, and worked at Stevenson Elementary as a custodian. After 14 years, he decided to seek another job. He worked as a car salesman for a few years. Also, he enjoyed volunteering his time at local churches and their food pantries.

There was never a dull moment when Charly was around. He could make you smile, laugh, teach you something new, and if need be, chide you. He was always willing to help, and was very generous. He was a friendly guy who loved to talk and make new acquaintances. He put that quality to use at Border Mart where he enjoyed hanging out. We will truly miss you, Charly!

On August 27, 2023, Charly passed away. He leaves behind his sister, Maria Cisneros; nephews and nieces Oscar, Aide (Conrad), Jamin, Jennifer (Steven); grand-nephews and nieces Darlene, Ondrea, Jacquelyn, Danitza, Tristen, Kain, Jesalen, Jailee, and Benicio, and seven great grand- nephews and nieces.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am, September 9, 2023, at Brown-Page Mortuary, 910 F Ave, Douglas, AZ
