Obituary

In Loving Memory of Camille La Forge

Camille La Forge, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and educator, passed away peacefully in his home in Douglas Arizona on August 28th, 2026.

A native son of the Southwest, Camille was born on March 18th, 1937 in Douglas, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hortencia and Edward La Forge, and his brothers, Edward and William.

Camille cherished visiting his grandparents, Vicente and Librada, along with his aunts and uncles in Silver City, New Mexico. He attended Douglas High School, graduating in 1956, before continuing his education at New Mexico State University. He later earned three master’s degrees from Texas Tech University, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.

Camille was member of the distinguished 101st Army Airborne Division. He served in combat during the Cuban Missile Crisis, demonstrating courage, dedication, and a deep sense of duty to his country.

Upon returning home, Camille met Anne Dawson, who had recently moved to Douglas from North Dakota to begin her first teaching position. They married and built a family together, raising three children: Michaele, Jimmy, and Patty.

Camille devoted much of his professional life to education, leaving a legacy in the schools and communities he served. He began his teaching career at an elementary school in Old Mesilla, New Mexico, where he initiated what is believed to have been the first chess club in New Mexico. His passion for education and his ability to inspire students continued as he became principal of Hatch Elementary School and later Gadsden Elementary School.

Camille eventually returned to Douglas, where he served as principal of Sarah Marley Elementary School. He concluded his distinguished educational career as Assistant Superintendent, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, innovation, and dedication to the education of young people.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Camille was a man of remarkable talents and many interests. A dedicated soldier, gifted teacher, artist, aspiring architect, lover of nature, and gifted storyteller, he brought creativity, curiosity, and a unique perspective to everything he did.

Above all, Camille was a loving and loyal son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, friend, and partner. He brought fun, joy, intelligence, and warmth into the lives of those around him, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Camille possessed a strong spirit, a generous heart, and an extraordinary ability to make life more interesting and meaningful. His stories, laughter, wisdom, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

His life was one of service, learning, creativity, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will remain a lasting testament to the remarkable man he was.

His legacy lives on through his family, his students, and all those whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Camille is survived by his children Howard, Michaele, James, Patricia; his daughter in-law Victoria Sciacqua; grandchildren Dausi Anne La Forge and Chase Michael La Forge-Sciacqua; his brothers Benjamin and Johnny; and companion, Maragret Waag.
