Bonnie Wayne
Hedges
Sep 13, 1927 — Aug 4, 2024
Bonnie Wayne Hedges went home to be her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 4, 2024, at the age of 96.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Cathy Jo Koester, Reeda Brazeal (Glenn); son, Lee Hedges; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Joe H. Hedges; parents, Ellis and Gladys Lee; and brothers, Willard and Darrell Lee.
Bonnie was born at home on September 13, 1927, in Maverick, Texas. She was the middle child, and only daughter, of Ellis and Gladys (Mackey) Lee. Bonnie was a 1945 graduate of Norton High School where she excelled in both academics and sports. After meeting at a community baseball game, she and Joe Hale (Jody) Hedges married September 7, 1946. While Jody farmed, Bonnie was a stay-at-home mother to Cathy Jo, born December 15, 1947, and Reeda Darlee, born December 2, 1953.
In 1955, Jody and Bonnie moved to Elfrida, Arizona. On July 1, 1955, a son, Lee Hedges, was born. With the purchase of a farm and their family now complete, Bonnie and Jody settled into a loving home where they spent the remainder of their lives as "pillars" of their community.
Bonnie was a life-long member of The First Southern Baptist Church in Elfrida. She was an avid supporter of Valley Union High School activities, and her baking skills were well known throughout the local area. Bonnie's hobbies included crossword puzzles, playing cards, and watching sports on television, especially Dallas Cowboys' football games. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday, August 9, 4-6 p.m., at Brown-Page Mortuary, 910 F Avenue, Douglas, Arizona. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the First Southern Baptist Church, 4151 West Sycamore Lane, Elfrida, Arizona, with Reverend Ken Richardson and Mr. Ed Curry officiating. Interment will be in the family plot at McNeal Cemetery, in McNeal, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, a "Memorial Donation" can be made in Bonnie's name to "The Darrell Lee Memorial Fund" Toni King, 1990 Davis Ranch Road, Willcox, Arizona 85643.
