Bobby Gowins passed away peacefully on July 4th 2024 at the The Haven in Sierra Vista after a short illness. Born April 26, 1930 in Gowinsville, Pope County Illinois.

Father: Alonzo Gowins Mother: Geneva Coots Vaughn Married: Jessie LaNora Patterson March 12, 1952. From this union one child was born Joyce Ann Gowins.

Married; Juanita Sisco English on March 30, 1962. Stepchildren in union were Michael Vinson English and Kathy English James. Married Wanell Vaughn May 15th, 1984. Stepchild in this union is John Vaughn.

Bob served in the Army from 1951 – 1953.

While living in Hardin County Illinois Bob was a member of the AINAD Shriners of Southern Illinois, where in 1980 he was named Shiner of the year. Bob also was a forty four year member of the Rosiclare Illinois Masonic Lodge #1144 , where he had reached the 32nd degree.

As a working man, Bob was self employed for many years as a truck driver before working at Ozark Mahoning Fluorspar mine in maintenance. Bob retired from the mines at 62 years of age. Bob and Wanell moved to McNeal, AZ in 1994. Bob was a tireless worker around his house. For many years he planted a large onion patch. Every Saturday he loaded up his truck and went to the Bisbee Farmer's Market. Everyone there knew him as "Bob the Onion Man". Bob was very active in Post 11 American Legion in Douglas, AZ. He served many years on their Honor Guard and was the Chaplain for the Honor Guard.

Bob leaves behind his wife of forty years Wanell "Nellie" Gowins, Daughter Joyce , (Eddie Shelby) of Rosiclare, Il. Grandchildren Amanda G. Martin, Quentin L. Martin, Dixie A. Ratliff Foster, seven Great Grandchildren. Step-son John & Eleanor Vaughn of McNeal, AZ. Grandchildren Katelynn Vaughn, Allison Fitterer and one Great Grandchild.

Bob's ashes will be shipped to his daughter in Rosiclare, Il where a private ceremony will be held. The family does ask for donations to be made in Bob Gowins's name to Post 11 Douglas American Legion.
