Bertha (Gomez) Rivera passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2015. She was 88 years old. Bertha was born in Pirtleville, Arizona on September 14, 1926, to Nemecio and Maria (Sanchez) Gomez. She was the lone survivor of her parent's family being preceded in death by her sisters, Emilia Velasco, Rosa Melendez, Lita Cruz, and Mary Lou Siddons, and brothers Brigido, Julian, and Pancho Gomez. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Eduardo "Chale", her son Rene "Champ", and grandson Carlos "Ernie" Rivera. She is survived by five children, Edward (Josie) Rivera, Rebecca Rivera, Enrique (Ana) Rivera, Rachel (Alex) Sproule, and Monica (Rene) Sierra. Bertha was a homemaker, a mother, a nana, a tia, a great neighbor and friend to whoever she met. She and Chale were proud Pirtleville natives were they lived all their lives and raised their 6 children. She is survived by 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A Visitation for Bertha will be held at Brown Page Mortuary on Friday May 29, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30th at Saint Bernard's Catholic Church in Pirtleville. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated following the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. by Father Theodore Lobo and Deacon Luciano Gonzales. Her body will be laid to rest at the Pirtleville Cemetery Veterans Plot next to her husband "Chale" a veteran of WWII.
