Obituary

Benjamin Davila, beloved father, grandfather, brother and son, went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irma Luisa Davila, brother, Joaquin Davila, sister, Graciela Davila and father, Fermin Davila.
Jose Benjamin Davila was born November 5, 1943 in Cumpas, Sonora. Oldest sibling of eleven, Benjamin graduated from Escuela Normal Superior in Hermosillo, Sonora in 1965. He was also a cadet and instructor of the Mexican Army Reserve where he trained instructors in mathematics. He later worked for Paul Lime Plant where he retired after 32 years. Benjamin was known as "El Profe" by his numerous former students. He married the love of his life, Irma Luisa Miranda in Douglas in 1967.
Benjamin was a master musician and played trumpet, piano, guitar and had a glorious singing voice. At the ripe age of 18, Benjamin played first trumpet for Five Diamonds and performed in the legendary Copa Cabana and Santa Fe. His love for music grew to include playing in local bands such as Pueblo, Sabor Latino, Ritmo y Sabor, La Familia and several mariachi groups.
Benjamin adored his children and grandchildren and marveled at the time he got to spend with them. He was an avid cook and would experiment with new recipes for his family to eat. According to his loved ones, he made the best spaghetti.
Benjamin is survived by his son, Benjamin (Ana) Davila, daughters, Karla (Fidel) Somoza, Diana Davila, Nora Maytorena, mother, Delia Vasquez, numerous sisters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A viewing is scheduled for Friday, April 29 at Brown Page from 4-6 p.m. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at St Luke's. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, April 30 at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's. Inurnment will be held on May 7th at 11 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery
