Aurora Mendez Gonzalez, 101, of Douglas, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at the Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista surrounded by her family. She was born in Cananea, Sonora, on December 23, 1913. She immigrated to Arizona and later became a U.S. Citizen. She worked and lived in Tucson for many years but later on moved to Douglas to be close to her family. She was a homemaker who loved helping and taking care of her family, especially when it came time to cooking for them. She enjoyed gardening and had a great knowledge of all kinds of plants and flowers. She also enjoyed relating stories to her family of all that she experienced in her 101 years of life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Carlota Gonzalez, her brothers Antonio, Manuel, Gonzalo, Rafael, Roberto, Ignacio, Enrique, and one sister Socorro Gonzalez and by her son Max Gonzalez and her daughter Socorro "Chiquita" Guerrero. She is survived by her grandsons Henry (Cynthia) Guerrero, Max (Luz) Guerrero, Jerry (Olivia) Guerrero, Jaime Guerrero; son-in-law Joe V. Guerrero; 13 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Everyone that knew her called her Mama. She was always concerned about her entire family and would help not just her family but anyone that needed it. Mama was a kind and loving person who will be missed greatly by all her family and friends. Her family would like to express their appreciation to everyone involved during this difficult time, especially to Maria and Fatima for their special care and love to Mama. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at St. Luke's Catholic Church followed by a celebration of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 with Father Samuel Jandeh officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers are Henry Guerrero, Max Guerrero, Jerry Guerrero, Jaime Guerrero, Gerardo Guerrero, Joe Guerrero, and Rene Guerrero.
